What Is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the force of blood against your artery walls. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and written as two numbers: systolic (top number) and diastolic (bottom number).

Risk Factors
High blood pressure can result from excess salt intake, lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol, stress, and genetics. Many people with high blood pressure have no symptoms.
Management Tips
- Reduce sodium intake below 2,300mg daily
- Exercise at least 150 minutes per week
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Limit alcohol and quit smoking
- Monitor blood pressure regularly at home
- Follow prescribed medication plans
When to See a Doctor
If your blood pressure consistently reads above 130/80, schedule an appointment. Seek immediate care for readings above 180/120, especially if accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, or vision changes.
